What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual therapy exclusively, based on the anatomy and physiology of the human body. The osteopath investigates the cause of the pain, suffering, discomfort felt by the patient, and treats the whole patient. Therefore for an ankle problem, the practitioner will also see your skull, your spine and more..
For treatment, an osteopath may use different techniques: cranial, visceral, structural (the "craking") and fascial. Osteopathy refers to "treatment of bone" is a misconception!
The term osteopathy comes from Greek osteos : bone, and pathos "suffering, emotions, pain." Osteopathy key to bone changes with the practice of surrounding structures such as muscles, ligaments, organs…. When these changes are caused by a disturbance of a mechanical nature.
In case of pathology, it is important to remember that osteopathy does not replace medical treatment. In some cases, an osteopathic treatment can bring real comfort and decreased pain, but nothing heals a recognized medical condition.
